Visitation MinistryOur Visitation Ministry shows our community that we have a genuine concern for their well being and their faith in Jesus Christ. When a new visitor comes to the church, a couple of members from our Visitation Ministry visits the new member at their own home to follow up on their recent visit to Towne. The new visitors are given the opportunity to ask questions and to find out more about Towne and its ministries. The Visitation Ministry is coordinated by Mae and Rae Hysell.
Shut-In MinistryThe Shut-in Ministry ministers to people who physically cannot make it out to the church and to widows and widowers. This ministry tries to show compassion and understanding for each individual situation. Members of this team take our shut-ins out for lunch for their birthday if they are able to travel. They are given special treats and gifts for other holidays as well. Some members of this team will clean house for those who are not able to do so. The Shut-In Ministry is coordinated by Barbara Jones.
Nursing Home MinistryOur Nursing Home Ministry provides a worship service to residents of nursing homes who cannot make it out to the church. This ministry goes on the fourth Sunday of every month to visit the nursing home where they have a regular sermon and interaction with the residents at the nursing home to show them that they care. The Nursing Home Ministry is headed by Ronald Slayton.
Compassion MinistryThe Compassion Ministry works with individuals facing difficulties in life, such as the homeless and those with drug addictions. The Compassion Ministry periodically holds a concert and takes a love offering to help assist with the program to help purchase food for lunches, blankets, and clothing. In the past they have worked with Helping Up Mission in Baltimore to provide transportation for men attend church services at Towne Baptist. At the present time the compassion Ministry is focusing on working with the homeless and providing them with a meal and clothing. The Compassion Ministry is coordinated by Chuck Burkey.
Sharing TableThe Sharing Table is a co-operative effort and occurs every Saturday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Edgewood. Several local churches volunteer once a quarter to provide a warm meal for individuals and families in the Harford County community that need a little extra help. The Sharing Table Ministry at Towne is coordinated by Sasha Meade.
Food ClosetOur food closet stores food that is held for families in the community that are in need as they hit hard times. We are always in need to restock the food closet and we are looking for foods that have a long shelf life, such as canned foods. We normally assist 4-5 families a month on average and as a result, it constantly needs to be replenished. The Food Closet is coordinated by Vicki Fiala.
Mission TripsEvery year during the summer, our church participates in a mission trip. These mission trips serve to help people in need in that community with work that needs to be done on their housing, and more importantly, minister to the community. We typically choose a new location every year but we have returned to a few of the old locations to further minister to that community. Our mission trips up to this date have always been in states other than Maryland such as, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and Ohio. Each mission trip is supported by a host church in the community which assists our mission trip by providing their local resources to our aide. We have crews that do construction work, other crews that do strictly ministry, and other crews that do minor construction work as well as ministry in the community. |
